Presbyopia

The focusing ability of the eye gradually decreases causing vision at normal reading distances to become blurred.

The natural aging process causes the lens of the eye to lose flexibility and the actual decline in focusing ability may occur over the years.

Presbyopia usually becomes apparent to people in their early to mid forties. It is important to note that laser eye surgery does not correct for this natural loss of accommodation and after such surgery patients are just as likely to need reading glasses as those who did not have laser treatment.

Treatment options: eyeglasses and contact lenses.
